So this weekend, I'm going to go hang out with some online friends of mine in Mount Vernon over the MLK weekend. It's going to be a fun LAN party, as we all play a game together online called Team Fortress 2, which is how I met all these crazy people. We all are of different classes and creeds, but the fact that we can come together in order to play a game across the internet shows how technologically advance we are in this day and age.
But what makes it even more unique is that we are still friends in real life. Sure we may have a large gap in between our homes, but the ability to meet up in real life because of online activities shows how connected we are on a personal level, and how people can still make friends no matter where they are. All it takes is a common interest and everything goes form there.
Of course, when it comes to beating the crap out of each other in a game, I think I've found the best people I could hope for...
I think it's really cool that your friendships have bridged the gap between the internet and the "real" world. How long have y'all been friends?
ReplyDeleteWhat Finch said, I'd love a bit more information about the origins of these friendships. How do you go from online to real friends without being sketchy or unsafe? I know the internet isn't a Lifetime movie, but you still have to be careful out there!
ReplyDeleteDitto! This is a topic that is really "up" for me right now, since many of my friendships seem to be shifting to online mode (even those friends who live in town!) this would be an excellent topic to explore further.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny because I was working on the blog post as you were writing it.
